What's Included

Value of the Golden Hour
In this first lesson, I break down for you the key ingredients of golden hour photography and what makes them so mesmerizing to photographers and viewers alike.

Exposure & Collecting Light
Photography is all about collecting light and in this lesson we look at the exposure triangle, settings for different scenarios and how to capture the tricky dynamic light we face when the sun is low and shadows are long.

Forecasting for Success
A huge part of landscape photography is about being at the right place at the right time. In this lesson I share with you the tools I use for forecasting weather, light and location scouting.

Composition Tips
Being at the right place at the right time is only one part of the equation but we still need to know what to do once we’re there. In this lesson I cover some fundamental composition tips for create images that have a three-dimension feel with depth and flow.

Seascape Sunset
We kick off with our first field shoot, on the wild west coast of New Zealand. We capture some abstract sand patterns with gentle sidelight then finish up with an epic backlit scene at sunset with slow shutter water, sea-stacks and warm hues bathing the scene.

Processing Sunset Images
Follow along as we process the images from our sunset shoot. I'll show you how to recover all details, create a sense of painterly depth and maximize the colors captured for a dreamy result.

Fiery Sky Shoot
In this lesson, we have an absolute fireball sunrise over a lone tree where we do an exposure blend for interesting foreground textures in the windswept grass. You’ll also learn how to create dreamy images using intention camera movement (ICM) on the water.

Processing Fiery Sky Images
Step by step processing of our ICM scene, making the most of color and texture for a soft, painterly result. Next, we cover the processing method for a lone tree being backlit at sunrise. We bring out the best of the colour and detail to lead the eye effectively.

Exposure Blending
Learn how to manually mask and blend exposures in Photoshop, which is used to overcome the problem of high winds blurring subject matter. This also gives an artistic result on creating various textures and movement in a scene.

Mountain Scene
Learn how to compose a frame using a wide angle and use focus-stacking to get close foreground details sharp all the way through to the background. Next, we process our mountain scene to reveal details then use automated and manual methods for blending exposures in a focus stack.

Morning Rainbow
A special morning of light as we capture a full rainbow arching over the mountains. Follow along with me on my boat as we plan and execute this shoot on the lake, then head home to show you how I process the image.

Stone & Water
It’s not all about the big grand sunrises and sunsets. In this lesson, follow along in the field as we look at a more intimate scene of water, stone and light. I then walk you through the editing process as well.
